Chief Geologist Resources
Some of your duties will include:
- Responsible to generate and maintain mineral inventory and mineral resource models as well as testing and implementing technical improvements to the standardized resource modelling process. Ensure the exploration database manageable and auditable which comply with industry standard of the exploration activity ie.: drilling.
- To ensure resource drilling activities are prioritized to deliver the resource as well reserve development as per the company strategy, and provide positive leadership, training and mentorship to exploration team members is also a key priority of the position.
- Production of high-quality, geologically valid, JORC 2012/KCMI-compliant resource models.
- Undertake technical audits of resource and grade control models as part of the approval process
- Maintain a strong involvement in QA/QC function in order to ensure that data supporting the resource models is fit for purpose.
- Keep abreast of resources to grade control model reconciliations and be able to explain discrepancies.
- Mentor Geologists in the process of estimation.
- Ensure the ongoing development of geological models and understanding of mine, resource, and regional-scale geology.
- Provide project management guidance for all major mineral resource and ore reserve development projects and activities.
- Ensure drilling is targeted to deliver the annual growth in resource and reserve as per the company strategy.
- Provide key input into mine planning assumptions and highlight potential risks.
- Develop and maintain procedures and geological processes.
- Completion of detailed resource reports annually or at the completion of major resource updates.
- Maintain effective and ongoing development of resource estimation techniques to ensure estimation methods conform with industry best practice.
What skills and experience do you need?
- Bachelor degree in Geology, Earth Science, or a related field
- Have 10 – 12 years’ experience as a geologist covering both mining and exploration environments with minimum 5 years’ experience in a resource geology role preferably in the gold mining industry; minimum 5 years’ proficiency in Mineral Resource Estimation.
- Have broad geological experience and supervision of drilling (RC & Diamond), sampling and QAQC programmers; Have experience in Geological Data Management (large datasets from drilling, sampling, geophysical surveys).
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in sampling, QAQC, block modelling, advanced grade estimation techniques, and reconciliation;
- Familiar with budgeting cycles and the preparation and development of budgets and building strategic business plans;
- Skilled in Geological Modeling Software (Minesight, Leapfrog, Micromine); Strong knowledge of GIS & Spatial Analysis (ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar);
- Familiar with Geostatistical for resource evaluation and uncertainty analysis.
- Understanding of QA/QC protocols for sampling and data integrity.
- Certified Geostatistical applications; Certified Database management; Have middle level operational inspector certificate (POM) or qualifications certificate recognized by KaIT (Chief Mines Inspector) in accordance with level of position.
- Proven leadership in supervising geologists, data analysts, and field teams; Strong delegation and leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire teams; Approachable and collaborative, fostering positive team culture; Skilled in cross-functional collaboration across corporate departments and teams; Strategic and commercial mindset with the ability to consider organization-wide impacts.; Strong analytical thinking and high attention to detail; Open-minded, adaptable, and receptive to new ideas and changes; Clear communicator of safety policies and active promoter of safety participation.
